Great Part Time Jobs With Health Insurance Benefits

Part-time employment is often associated with foregone benefits including corporate discounts, paid vacations days and, of course health insurance. This happens because employers consider that part-time workers do not invest 100% of their time in the organization to reimburse for the high cost of health insurance. However, in the turbulent economic environment of today, there are companies that are interested in offering part-time jobs that combine flexibility with benefits in an effort to attract, but mostly retain hard-working, highly-qualified workers.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (http://www.bls.gov/), the jobs/companies that offer part-time employment with full-time benefits are the following:

a) Healthcare Sector

Hospitals and healthcare organizations offer full healthcare benefits because they want to hire highly-qualified employees. For instance, medical assistants receive, besides healthcare coverage, 401k retirement plans, pension, and paid vacation days, while they are also allowed to work flexible hours. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assistant is one of the fastest growing professions today occupying numerous part-time employees in hospitals. Other careers in the healthcare sector that enjoy part-time employment with benefits are nurses, therapists and physicians.

b) Retail Sector

Considering part-time employment in the retail sector is one of the best deals. Because the retail sector is cyclical and highly affected by macro-economic conditions, nationwide retailers are willing to offer health insurance benefits to part-time employees in order to attract and retain them. Prominent examples of retailers that offer their part-time workers healthcare insurance, 401k plans and other benefits are Nike, Nordstrom, Land’s End, Macy’s, JC Penney, Walgreens, Target, IKEA, Barnes & Noble, Starbucks and Whole Foods. For instance, baristas at Starbucks who work at least 20 hours per week are eligible for healthcare insurance, 401k plan, legal services, and paid vacation days. Similarly, cashiers at Whole Foods working minimum 30 hours per week with minimum 800 hours in the supermarket chain are eligible for healthcare coverage. And if they stay over a year with the company, they are eligible for 401k plan and 20% discount on Whole Food items.

c) National Delivery Companies

Package handlers at DHL, UPS and FedEx receive full healthcare benefits including dental care, vision care, disability insurance and life insurance for themselves and their dependants. To be fully eligible they have to complete one year at the company and work minimum 15 hours per week. Part-time employees at national delivery companies can also receive 401k plans and paid vacation time.

Overall, situation is changing for part-time employment and employees can enjoy both flexibility and benefits in certain jobs. For instance, besides the above mentioned options, for those who have a teaching experience and can prepare standardized tests for students, test preparation instructor is another alternative for part-time employment with health insurance benefits. Similarly, software companies seek for tech savvy part-time employees and offer them health insurance, among other benefits.

Natural Ways to Improve Mental Health

Mental illness can make living difficult. Everyday tasks seem unmanageable. Work is overwhelming and family life is a struggle. If you or someone you know is suffering from mental illness, take a look into some of these natural ways to improve mental health.

Natural Way to Improve Mental Health 1 – First, Be Sure the Diagnosis is Accurate

In this day and age where virtually everybody is prescribed a pill for something, it is very important to be sure the symptoms being experienced are related to mental illness. There are many physical ailments that mimic mental health problems. Thyroid disease, gluten intolerance, hypoglycemia and heavy metal toxicity are just a few of the physical illnesses that may at first be diagnosed as schizophrenia, depression or anxiety disorder.

Natural Way to Improve Mental Health 2 – Second, Make Some Dietary Changes

An intolerance to gluten (a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and oats) can cause a host of mental health symptoms such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, insomnia and brain fog.

In addition to hidden food intolerances, mental health can also be affected by food preservatives such as:

High Fructose Corn Syrup

High fructose corn syrup, which is found in virtually every processed food on the market, causes inflammation in the body that has been noted to increase mental anxiety and bring about mental illness. There is now a movement to ban high fructose corn syrup in the US on account of its terrible side effects.

Aspartame

Aspartame is one of the deadliest poisons we consume every day. There are a whopping 92 different symptoms related to aspartame poisoning, the most common being attention deficit disorder and panic disorder.

Food Dyes

Food dyes such as Red Dye #40 and Yellow Dye #5 have been noted to affect both children and adults in a very negative way. Both have been linked to anxiety, hyperactivity and learning disorders. Yellow Dye #5 can also cause migraines and insomnia.

It is very important to become a label reader and drastically reduce or eliminate foods containing these additives from your diet.

A diet rich in a wide variety of healthy, raw, whole foods are the best natural choice for good mental and physical health. Choose organic meats, fruits, vegetables, beans and nuts as the staple of your diet. Indulge in dark organic chocolate for dessert. Dark chocolate can have a powerful impact on mental health by boosting the feel-good chemical in the brain, serotonin and encouraging relaxation.

Natural Way to Improve Mental Health 3 – Third, Take Some Supplements

The Western diet is full of fatty, fried and fast foods that take a toll on both physical and mental health. Though it is important to get the majority of nutrients from food, there are three nutrients those suffering with mental health symptoms should introduce to their diet.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega 3 fatty acids, such as those found in krill oil, are excellent for the brain. These fatty acids have been reported to decrease aggression and irritability, stabilize mood and prevent psychosis.

Chelated Magnesium

The pituitary gland needs magnesium in order to regulate the hormones that control adrenaline. Too much adrenaline in the body can result in irregular heartbeat, severe anxiety, insomnia, mania and depression. Those who are deficient in this mineral are at increase risk of committing suicide. Adding a chelated magnesium supplement to the diet can reverse these affects and stabilize both body and mind.

Vitamin D

The Vitamin D Council has noted that evidence of mental illness has increased as humans exposure to the sun has decreased. Vitamin D deficiency is one of the most common vitamin deficiencies in the US. This deficiency has been linked to depression, autism, brain abnormalities and schizophrenia as well as a host of physical diseases. Before taking a vitamin D supplement, have your blood levels tested by a trusted healthcare provider to determine how much of the supplement you need.

Natural Way to Improve Mental Health 4 – Fourth, Take Some Herbs

Herbs are nature’s healers. However, it is important to note that just because herbs are natural, does not mean there is no concern of side-effects or overdosing. It is important to consult with a trusted herbalist or naturopath before taking these herbs.

Valerian

Valerian is a strong-smelling natural herb that can be used for anxiety and insomnia. Start with the smallest dose first (100-300mg) to see how you’ll react. Do not drive or operate machinery until this herb is completely out of your system.

St. John’s Wort

St. John’s Wort is an herb commonly used for depression. The herb tends to be well-tolerated by those suffering from mild to moderate depression and those using it report having few side-effects and little to no withdrawal symptoms.

Kava Kava

Kava Kava is an herb that has been noted effective in treating social anxiety. Those with liver problems should not take this herb without consulting their healthcare provider.

Chamomile

Chamomile can be used to treat anxiety and insomnia. It can be taken in tea, tablet or tincture form. Those with bleeding disorders or allergies to plants in the daisy family should not take this herb.

Natural Way to Improve Mental Health 5 – Fifth, See a Chiropractor

Though most associate doctors of chiropractic medicine with treating back and neck injuries, they can help improve mental health as well. Physical and mental trauma can cause damage to the nervous system, which creates problems with the brain’s ability to properly communicate with the rest of the body. Gentle chiropractic adjustments can correct this block and help the nervous system rebalance and heal.

When it comes to mental health, there are many more choices available than just pharmaceutical drugs. Be sure to consult with a trusted healthcare provider before taking herbs if you are currently on any psychiatric medication or are pregnant or nursing.

Also, don’t underestimate the power of therapy. Instead of only seeing a psychiatrist for medication management, find a good therapist you can really talk to about the problems you’re facing.

Just having somebody to listen without passing judgment may prove to be the best medicine of all!

Get An International Travel Health Insurance For Your Peace of Mind

Although traveling can be such fun, there are lots of things  that can happen while you are in a different location.  We often hope that our travels will be fun and safe, and that everything will go as planned. However, it makes sense to be prepared to handle the most difficult situations while in another country.

Traveling  could be difficult  even for seasoned frequent travelers, all the more for first time travelers.  While you are on a trip, you could lose your belongings, you could get stuck in  an unfamiliar place, you could get lost and what’s worst -  you could get into an accident or get an infection, where you would have to be hospitalized. This  is where a travel health insurance comes in  handy.

Travel Health Insurance Benefits

A travel health insurance policy assures the traveler that he or she will have medical assistance in the event of an accident while traveling. It saves the traveler from worrying about financial costs of the medical services needed, as the insurance company takes in the responsibility of paying for all these expenses.

It provides a safe buffer in case of medical emergencies. These are usually term travel insurance plans that cover you only while traveling.  Some issuers will only cover you while in transit (inside a plane, ship or bus) on your way to your destination, while others are more comprehensive, covering other things such as baggage loss, on top of the medical coverage.

Usually, premiums are affordable, because these are only term insurance policies.  Yet, some people would think twice about paying for a travel insurance, because if their trip is uneventful, and they get to their destinations safely, the premiums paid are no longer refunded.

When choosing the right travel health insurance, shop around depending on your needs.  How long will you be out of the country? What are the health and safety risks that you may encounter during your trip? What is the recent health situation in the country you are visiting?

To save some money, you can check some deals that your travel agency may offer you. There are travel agencies that offer travel insurance as a freebie that comes with your ticket.  Some credit card companies try to encourage people to use their cards for paying their airline tickets by offering free travel insurance also.

Check if the travel insurance plan being offered to you covers medical expenses for illnesses and accidents while you’re traveling to another country. Make sure that you read the policy first before signing up, so that you would know the extend of the coverage.

You can also check insurance reviews online that often compare insurance companies and suggest the best travel health insurance deals that will suit your requirements.  Make an informed decision based on the premium cost, the extent of coverage, and the reputation of the insurance company.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday, but keep yourself protected from the unexpected. Don’t forget to put travel insurance on your list for your own peace of mind.

Adverse Mental Health Symptoms Indicative of an Illness

It is sometimes very hard to pinpoint what makes a mentally ill patient be referred to as such, especially when such a person is a close family member. Mental disorders sometimes come out as odd behaviors and psychological states that you may not be prepared to call mental illness just yet. Mental health symptoms indicative of an illness are sometimes impossible to identify when a loved one is the patient. Indeed, the conventional definition of mental disorders is as a behavioral or psychological pattern that is closely associated with disability or distress occurring in an individual and which is not accepted as part of the normal culture or human development.

That definition leaves a lot of room for almost everyone to qualify as mentally ill at one time or the other. It does not even help to pinpoint the specific adverse mental health symptoms that we can use to qualify your brother, sister, parent, cousin or friend as a mentally ill individual. It is on this basis that experts have come up with numerous criteria of defining, assessing and treating a host of mental disorders with less than a standard criterion of classifying which mental health symptoms one can use to categorize the patients in one disorder or the other.

It does not help or make it easier to determine when a loved one is mentally ill when mental disorders are simply conceptualized as brain circuits disorders caused by faulty developmental processes or complex interplay of experience and genetics. Mental health symptoms are in most cases a product whose genetics are the genetics of human brain development differing across individuals depending on their environmental and biological contexts.

There are however some symptoms that one should note when any of their loved ones is indicative of having a mental illness. The mental health symptoms that indicate cases of mental illness are ideally categorized into six groups namely those related to socializing, thinking, feeling, functioning, self-care and family relations. To begin with, there are those mental health symptoms that indicate psychological disorders namely, difficulty thinking, abnormal socializing, poor social functioning, acute depression and post traumatic stress. The problem is that these are actually symptoms of a psychological disorder and not necessarily indicative of mental illnesses. It is when the symptoms get very severe and are compounded simultaneously (not when they occur in isolation) that an individual can be classified as mentally ill.

Problems that concern thinking as a symptom of mental illnesses include poor concentrating and ease of distraction, poor recall and remembrance, evident confusion in processing information, inability to solve simple problems and inability to think abstractedly. Problem that concern feeling as a symptom of mental illnesses include, decreased appetite, lack of sleep, weight loss, intrusive suicide and death thoughts inability to make concentrate and decisions, feeling worthless, helpless and hopeless, feeling overly guilty for minor things and the loss of interest in formerly pleasurable things.

Problems with social and family relations and functioning as adverse mental health symptoms indicative of an illness include bipolar mania signs such as being overly confident about talents, abilities, appearance or wealth, having excessive energy and little sleep, being irritable most of the time, extreme mood swings without any provocation, speaking very fast incoherently, being easily angered, being verbally and even physically aggressive, being abnormally excited, euphoric and disruptive to others.Other anxiety symptoms that may also indicate a mental disorder include being over-alert most of the time, avoiding normal activities, performing ritualistic and repeated behaviors, frequent upsetting and even intrusive memories as well as nightmares from past events etc. These are not exhaustive symptoms that indicate mental illness. But they can be used as a pointer in assessing loved ones whether deserving a mental evaluation by an expert.

Changes to The Mental Health System And The Problems it Has Created

Today’s society no longer views mental health as weakness or just laziness. Mental Health today is viewed as it should be a disease and the treatments that are available are vast and often confusing.  Treatment options vary depending on diagnosis and progression of the disease. There have been several key factors in societies changing its view of mental illness.

One of the factors in this is the role of genetics; science today believes that mental illness is combination of genetics and environmental factors.  This is very different from the early part of the 1900′s when mental illness was believed to be just a weakness of character.  The first treatments of this mental “weakness” were cruel and unnecessary.  Treatment for mental illness consisted of shock therapy, isolation and institution combined with high dosages of medications.

In the 1960′s society begin to look at the treatment of the mentally ill and were horrified at the conditions of those living in facilities.  There was a large movement to deinstitutionalize those in care and move mental health care into community settings.  This move helped bring mentally ill patients into the spotlight and helped advance their treatment and care. However, deinstitutionalizing was not helpful in all cases and left some patients lacking in the care they require.  Those with chronic and persistent mental illness struggle to maintain in society and most health insurances, including Medicaid do not pay for long term stabilization in an outpatient setting. This leaves community mental health clinics struggling with what to do with these patients.  There is no way to get reimbursed for seeing them continually without justified gains, however if there are discharged they quickly end up in the hospital. No therapist would ever turn down patient that cannot pay, however if too many cannot pay the doors close.

The movement of mentally ill patients into the community has been laced with problems and although it is certainly more humane then state run hospitals it does leave gaps in our overall care system. As a society we must find ways to care for those who cannot care for themselves and this must be done in a way that can be proven beneficial.  The measurement of this benefit will leave traditional payers without their desired measureable outcomes; however treatment of mentally ill patients cannot be measured with traditional means.

How to Buy Pet Health Insurance

5 Tips Owners Should Be Aware of When Buying Pet Health Insurance

Pet insurance is still relatively new and the percentage of cats and dogs covered by pet health insurance is still very low.  However, the number of pets being insured is rising quickly by some insurance experts by as much as 20 percent a year.  With that many people opting to purchase pet health insurance for their dogs and cats, what should be considered before they put their money down?

Instructions

1

The Preexisting Condition Clause and Pet Health Insurance

This is an important aspect of purchasing pet health insurance.  Unlike the health care reform that most insurance companies must comply with concerning preexisting conditions in humans, for pets there is no provision.  Almost every pet health insurance policies will exclude preexisting conditions in your pet.  Many of those policies will also exclude any illness that is considered hereditary in your pet.  An example is hip dysplasia, a common in many breeds and not covered by most pet health insurance policies.

2

Preventive Maintenance and Pet Health Insurance

Most pet health insurance carriers will charge you extra for preventive maintenance for your dog or cat.  Preventive maintenance is considered a wellness rider onto the pet insurance policy and can run a pet owner 0 to 0 a year.  These riders usually cover checkups, vaccines, parasite detection, and dental cleaning.  A pet owner should calculate the annual numbers and compare their out of pocket costs to the cost of the wellness riders.

3

Your Pet’s Age and Pet Health Insurance

Many pet health insurance carriers have some restrictions when it comes to the age of your dog or cat.  If your pet is too young and has not had all their vaccinations or are not showing any preexisting conditions, most pet health insurance carriers will not issue a policy.  On the opposite end, if your dog is over 8 years old or your cat is over 10 years old they will not be covered by pet health insurance.  The one caveat is coverage for accidents or emergencies for your pet; however, those premiums are quite high.

4

The Right Coverage for Pet Health Insurance

Because pet health insurance is just beginning to boom, coverage and costs are very erratic.  Some pet health insurance policies can be as cheap as 0 a year up to over 00 for better coverage.  Many pet health insurance carriers will pay anywhere from 60 to 90 percent of the claims; however there are usually limits on the expenses for diagnostics and treatments for your dog or cat.

Tips & Warnings

Paying Claims for Pet Health Insurance

It is important to understand that pet health insurance claims are not much different the other insurance claims.  Pet owners are required to pay the vet for the treatment of their dog or cat and then file a reimbursement claim with the insurance carrier.  It is important to verify with the insurance company how long a typical claim takes.  Most should be no longer than 20 days to turnaround.

What Are Mental Health Jobs???

What are Mental Health Jobs?

Now that you’ve finished your medical degree, it’s time to find a job. In hospitals or medical facilities, nothing can be more difficult and demanding as mental health jobs. That is why we often see a great demand of these jobs when we make job searches in the internet or in advertisements. Also, the increase in mental patients in most facilities and institutions contribute to the increase in demand for these jobs.

Contrary to what most people think, there are many aspects of mental health. In the field of psychology alone, there are other areas of specialization such as neuropsychology, geropsychology and health psychology. There is also what we call school psychologists. These are the counselors in most schools and universities. Another kind is called developmental psychology, which focuses on a man’s psychological development through life. There is also what you call industrial psychology, which focuses on the mechanics of employees in the workplace.

Mental health nurses are those who have graduated the regular nursing course. During the course training, they need to specialize in mental health in order to qualify as mental health nurses.

Doctors who specialize in mental health are commonly called psychiatrists. Each state would impose qualifications before one can practice. For most countries, they are those who graduated the regular physician’s course, and a few years of specialization in psychiatry. There is also a field called psychotherapy, which deals more on counseling and therapy instead of the clinical aspect of treatment.

Mental health jobs can also be found in medical schools where mental health courses are offered.

Aside from those mentioned, there are other jobs in the mental health field. Some of them are medical or hospital social workers, psychiatric technicians and other hospital personnel. Some mental health centers hire other hospital personnel such as dieticians, physical therapists, pharmacists, dentists, laboratory staff, radiologists, speech pathologists, optometrists, and many others.

As for the pay, the salary range for these jobs is quite wide. Depending on a person’s education and experience, one can earn twice as much as those who work in the same position. And like jobs in other industries, companies prefer applicants who are better qualified and trained. This can be seen in their educational background and previous job experiences.

Aside from the skills necessary to carry out their jobs, an unwritten qualification is added, and that is, their ability to care for the patients and listen to their needs. Mental health patients have extra needs than ordinary medical patients. That is why there is a need for mental health workers to be more patient and understanding than workers in other medical fields.

Health care industries shall continue to expand in the coming years. This means that more mental health jobs shall be available. If you want a job in the mental health field, it is easy to find one. You just have to know where to find them. Make a search for jobs wanted within your area. You can visit the website of the medical facility or company that you wish to work in to see their job opportunities. Or you may register in a job support website. These websites not only provide you with a list of the jobs available, they also provide articles on career advice, industry news and articles, and tips on job hunting and interview.
